Taking time for yourself

Hello again to all mothers! Today, I’d like to talk about “me time”. Many moms may say….”What is me time?” Although, the thought that may never occur to us, because we have millions of things to accomplish. As a mother, we tend to prioritize everyone else. This is what we do, and that’s ok, but it’s also ok to prioritize ourselves. It has been said many times that we have to take care of ourselves in order to continue being amazing mothers. That statement is absolutely true. It is extremely important to maintain our health…physically, mentally and emotionally.

How can we process having time for ourselves when the moment we open our eyes in the morning, our brains are already on “full schedule mode”? I will say, making time for yourself can seem impossible…there is not enough time in the day for that. I promise, as a mom, I do understand reaching that goal may seem to be nonexistent. But as moms, one of our many specialties is scheduling. So, why not use one of our professional skills for ourselves. Looking at a weeks schedule can seem overwhelming and finding that time to squeeze in “me time” may seem impossible. To make the impossible, possible, there are many ways to reach this important goal. We’ll talk about taking these steps one at a time.

There are no rules on how to go about making time for yourself, but let me offer some ideas. I’ll mention some ideas today and then go deeper into each one in following posts. The list of ideas is endless and can be as creative or simple as you want it to be. A good place to start is to think back of what you enjoyed pre-children. There are hundreds of ideas, such as reading, writing, dancing, exercising, art, meditation, etc. You choose what you enjoyed back then, or you can choose something new that has sparked your interest. Whatever you decide, remember it is important to take that time for yourself. I’ll discuss ideas, including some of my “me time” in following posts. Remember as moms we have to take that time so we can continue being the amazing moms that we are… and remember to breathe.
